On Tuesday, November 12, 2024, various community leaders in Guilford County, North Carolina were afforded the opportunity to learn more about the Motel to Home program in Atlanta, Georgia. Partners Ending Homelessness was excited to be present to learn more about the program, as we see a rising number of people experiencing homelessness in local hotels and motels.
"[The program's original] goal [was] to house at least 1,000 families by June 2025. [They] accomplished this goal last year and [are] excited to do it again!
One of the major barriers that hinders the success of children and families is a lack of stable housing. Motels and extended-stay hotels often serve as shelters of last resort when a family has been removed from their own home. Families initially move into the extended stay location as a short-term solution but often find themselves unable to save the necessary amount to address overdue bills or secure the deposit for housing. Motel to Home (M2H) moves families out of motels into stable, permanent housing with a 3-step approach: outreach, housing, and aftercare."
